Today, we're diving into the 7 mistakes you absolutely want to avoid when kickstarting your wedding florist business.
Mistake #1: You think you can't charge that much
Alright, I get it. Humble beginnings and all that. But hey, you're not just arranging flowers, you're running a business. My advice is learn how to use the industry formula for florists and stick to it. Make sure you're charging enough to cover all those behind-the-scenes costs – inventory, materials, storage, rentals, transport. You need to be charging correctly to be running a successful and profitable business.
Mistake #2: No sales goal and having no plan
I get it; dreams are cool, but without a goal and a plan, they're just like flowers without sunlight – they might not bloom as beautifully as they could. Setting goals gives you a direct that you want to go to so you can put in specific efforts to get to where you want to. And another thing is How do you know if you're winning the game if you don't have a scorecard? Setting a sales goal allows you to measure your success and when things aren't going as well they they should be they allow you to adjust strategies when needed.
Mistake #3: Not understanding your ideal client
Now, I get it, you're thinking, "Why do I need to know all the nitty-gritty details about them?" Well, let me tell you, identifying your ideal client is like discovering the magic key to unlock the full potential of your business. Your ideal client isn't just a random person who buys your flowers. Knowing who they are, where they spend their time, and what makes them tick is the secret sauce to creating irresistible floral experiences. You can create offers specifically for your ideal client if you know who they are and what they desire. You can also use this to help with your marketing strategies so you resonate with them. You can use this to build trust and loyalty
Mistake #4: Make it easy for your customers to buy
Let's keep it simple. Create offers that are a no-brainer for your brides. Make the buying process a breeze. believe you me this will be less of a headache for you too and means less back-and-forth and more time for the fun stuff – arranging those beautiful blooms.
Mistake #5: Thinking you are not skilled enough
Running a business isn't all about your flower-arranging skills. Yes, you need the basics, but your skills won't pay the bills if you don't know the business side of things. It's time to shed that self-doubt. Every florist, no matter how experienced, started with the basics and builds on them over time. And The floral world is ever-evolving with new trends - so every time trends change you can't say you are not qualified enough - you adapt, use the trends and move forward. The key is also learning to build the business and I have a free masterclass on I built my 6 figure business.
Mistake #6: Not networking enough
Get out there! Make friends in the industry. Networking opens doors to exciting collaborations. Imagine the beauty that blooms when creative minds come together. Collaborate with fellow florists, photographers, and event planners. Help each other out, refer clients, and watch your business grow. Running a business can sometimes feel like a solo journey. Networking introduces you to a community of like-minded individuals who understand the highs and lows of the floral world. It's not just about what you know, but who you know. Check over on Instagram where I tell you how you can ask for a collaboration.
Mistake #7: Not marketing correctly
Marketing isn't just about being seen; it's about being seen by the right eyes. When I first started my business I wanted to do installations and big budget weddings but I was posting bouquets and wandering why I wasn't getting the right clients. Correct marketing involves aligning your message with your offering. It's about presenting what you want to sell. If you're selling installations, show installations. It sounds obvious, but trust me, I've made this mistake. Don't post bouquets if you're all about those jaw-dropping installations. Market what you want to sell.
