Imagine this - one week, you're on fire. Your arrangements are impeccable, orders are flowing smoothly, and you're on top of your game. But, fast forward to the next week, and suddenly, it feels like everything is falling apart. What happened? Today, I'm exploring the highs and lows of maintaining that elusive consistency and the approach and strategies you can use that'll help you.
________________________________________________
It's not uncommon for wedding florists to experience this rollercoaster. The key is to understand that inconsistency is a part of the entrepreneurial journey. Embrace the highs, but more importantly, learn from the lows. Let's dive in and go through how you can stay consistent.
Set yourself clear goals
You need an intention so you can start working on what you want to do. Think of what your goal is and what you want to achieve. Build these into your routine. Goal is not always financial, it can be that you can you network and built 5 new connections each week or you want to make sure your workspace is clean and tidy each week following your event. Once you know what your goal is your can block the time to get this done. Which brings me to point number 2
Task Management with Time Blocking
Time blocking is a powerful method to manage tasks efficiently. What I do is Dedicate specific blocks of time to different activities—whether it's designing arrangements, client meetings, ordering, organising inventory or administrative work. This helps maintain focus and prevents tasks from spilling into one another. Over on instagram I show how I break up a week when I have a wedding installation on a Saturday. Typically my weddings are for 300-400 guests for south asian weddings and comprise of the south Indian wedding ceremony followed by the turnaround for the evening and sometimes when couples are really ambitious they fit in their Civil Wedding on the same day. Head over to instagram this week where I'll be showing you my calendar and how I time block through the week to get the important tasks done. This includes tasks like admin, client consultations, floral prep, site visits, arranging staff, organise social media marketing to name a few.
Creating a System for Routine and Habits
Consistency thrives on routine. when you create this time blocking system turn it into a weekly system that becomes second nature. Set specific times for routine tasks, like client meeting, checking inventory or updating social media. Over time, this systematic approach turns into habits, making your workflow more predictable and manageable. for example the one thing I do is on Monday following the event (which is rest day for wedding florists) I set aside an hour to go through my photos from the event and put them into a folder or library so that its easy for me to find them.
Adapting to challenges
Entrepreneurship is full of challenges with ups and downs. the idea is to never say No. Always keep a solution orientated mindset and look for alternatives by being flexible in your approach. There is never a right or wrong. If your solution works then great news and keep going and if the solution flops then learn from it, pick yourself up and carry on forwards with your next idea until it works.
Celebrating success
You've set the goal, worked your way through it maybe with or without the challenges and then when you get to the end you feel excited that the goal has been accomplished.. This is the time to celebrate your success. No matter how big or small be sure to give yourself a pat on the back because you are your biggest fan in entrepreneurship and you have to learnto blow your own trumpet. I found this difficult to do at first but this celebrating success and positive self talk will motivate you to carry on to the next thing and then the next and next things.
